• 2013 Institute: Wednesday, July 24 - Saturday, July 27
We are very excited to announce our third annual University of Massachusetts Amherst Conducting Institute! For four days this summer, join conductors James Patrick Miller, Tony Thornton, guest artists Frank Battisti and Wayne Abercrombie, and participants from across the country for rehearsals, lectures, and discussions focused on the art of conducting. The Institute provides intensive training for early or mid-career conductors, significant podium time (ninety minutes plus!) conducting both an SATB choir and instrumental ensemble, score study of accompanied and unaccompanied repertoire, exploration of current trends in music education, topic lectures on repertoire and programming, and a trip to Tanglewood. Participants will receive feedback in masterclass format from Drs. Miller and Thornton as well as the guest conductors. Those wishing to attend the Institute as an auditor (playing/singing in the ensembles, but not conducting) may do so for a reduced fee. Preference will be given to those applicants that have completed conducting courses at the undergraduate level. Conductors leave inspired with new ideas and techniques to bring to their home ensembles.

Don't miss the registration deadline - April 1st, 2013!

Early registration April 1 - $500
Late registration May 15 - $550
